The territory of Atzara
Encounter between history, nature and taste
Atzara is a lovely village between woods and vineyards, in the province of Nuoro, located at an altitude of 543 m asl, on the western side of the Gennargentu, a step away from the highest peaks of Sardinia. Of medieval origin, probably founded around the year 1000, in its territory you can find buildings of historical interest (see the Church of Sant’Antioco and Santa Maria de Susu), as well as the ruins of Domus de Janas(Sardinian: “House of the Fairies” or of the “Witches” are a type of pre-historic chamber tombs found in Sardinia), Tombs of the giants(or “Giants‘ Grave”, a type of Sardinian megalithic gallery grave built during the Bronze Age by the Nuragic civilization; see post) and Nuraghi(see post). The village is surrounded by woods and hills planted with orchards and vineyards, from which we get the famous Mandrolisai wine, a wine that takes its name just from this inner area of Sardinia. The Mandrolisai is defined by a ruby red color, but there is also a rosè type, aged in oak barrels, thanks to the quality and uniqueness of its grapes it has become part of the Sardinian wines which have obtained the recognition of Denomination of Controlled Origin(DOC). Intense and fruity aroma, to the palate is dry, full, balanced and well structured. The red DOC goes well with cheese (see post) and meats, pasta dishes (see post), panadas (see post), soups and roasts. Serve at a temperature of 18-20 ° C, in a flare goblet.
