Nuragic Complex of Serbissi
Ogliastra – Nuoro
Today we want to talk about one of the most valuable areas from the wildlife point of view, where you can also find several really interesting archaeological sites. Serbissi is an archaeological complex situated on the plateau of the “Taccu of Osini“, an impressive natural rock with steep limestone walls, from which you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Ogliastra and Barbagia. The archaeological site is particularly impressive: is located at an altitude of 963 m. asl and is formed by four towers, embedded in a mighty bastion and connected to the inside of the structure by a narrow corridor. The towers were probably built in several phases: in the first was built the central tower, still well preserved, with a residual height of 6.30 m. This tower has two floors, in the lower one, the room has coverage at “tholos” still intact and an ogival niche in the left wall, the room on the upper floor is instead almost completely collapsed. The complex includes a village (there are eight huts); a cave with two entrances, probably used as a warehouse for foodstuffs; two giant’s graves(see other post). At a short distance we also find, located in the plain of Troculu, two nuraghis mono-towered, called Sanu and Orruttu, located a short distance from each other. The first we encounter is the nuraghe Orruttu, built with large blocks of limestone, which houses a room with two niches and a scale. Near the nuraghe you can recognize the remains of a hut. Later we find the nuraghe Sanu, collapsed and not open to visit, which judging by the diameter had to reach a great height. Nearby there are also the remains of the two giant’s graves in a poor state of preservation.
Not to miss!!!
