Caves, Waterfalls and Stunning Landscapes
The territory of Ogliastra with its breathtaking views, natural landscapes that invite you to walk in the middle of nature and an innate vocation of food and wine products, is the land where is located Ulassai. This is the territory famous for the Cannonau grape, which gives life to full-bodied and strong wines, but always marked by a particular elegance, (see post), as well as typical dishes full of flavors. The village of Ulassai is known for the caves “Is Lianas” and “Su Marmuri“(see post), among the largest in Europe; is surrounded by the characteristic “tacchi“(see post 1 & 2), limestone plateaus such as the Tisiddu that attract fans of extreme sports from Italy and abroad, and the area is also rich in monuments of the nuragic era, with buildings still in excellent state of preservation. Nearby, among the luxuriant vegetation, there are numerous springs that during periods of high rainfall give rise to spectacular waterfalls: those of Lecorci are in the vicinity of the village, while a little farther on, about 7 km away, in Santa Barbara area, we find the impressive waterfalls of Lequarci, almost 100m high and 70m wide, and all around an amazing landscape full of lakes. The typical dish of the area are culurgiones(see post), a kind of ravioli filled with potatoes and mint, and also there’s an excellent production of cold cuts, accompanied by fine cannonau wines and the particular and typical bitter honey of arbutus.
