The Gorge of Gorropu is a deep canyon located in the Supramonte area and forms the boundary of the municipalities of Orgosolo and Urzulei. Is 1.5 km long and from Punta Cucuttos (888m) collapses for 500 meters and his bottom narrows to reach the minimum width of 4-5 meters.
The gorge of Gorropu is considered one of the deepest canyons in Europe and it is a treasure of natural biodiversity. There are multiple access routes to get to the canyon (you can choose between three different levels of difficulty and the cost to the entrance of the gorge is 5 €), following the easiest path, at km 183 of the SS125, in the locality “Genna Sila” of the municipality of Urzulei, you turn taking a path that winds through centuries-old oak trees and other plants typical of the mediterranean maquis. When you reach the bottom of the gorge, the wonder of nature that surrounds us is astonishing: giant boulders carved by the water over thousands of years, then little blue lakes and waterfalls from the icy waters. Better to have hiking boots and a good supply of water and if you are tired then there is no problem, there is a service (to be agreed at the ticket office at the entrance of the throat)for come back with a jeep (at a cost of 10 € person)!!!
We think that the canyon is worth every bead of sweat and every aching muscle. Awesome beauty on an island that has so many, unspoilt natural wonders. It could be the icing on the cake of your trip. After days of beaches, each more spectacular than the last, you can live this inland break, trekking downhill to a pretty much undiscovered paradise. Great!!!
